Hand tap for manual cutting of internal threads
Tapping is only occasionally part of your job? Are you a do-it-yourselfer, on the road a lot or do you not have a well-equipped workshop? Then the hand tap is the tool of your choice. With a hand tap, you can cut threads anytime and anywhere and are not dependent on expensive equipment.
With the hand tap, the work is divided among three different tools to reduce the amount of force required. You get the required taps in a hand tap set, which consists of a pre-cutter, post-cutter and finish cutter. In this way, a precise internal thread is created by hand in no time at all.
Machine tap for machine cutting of internal threads
If you have a floor or bench drill, then you can make your work easier with a machine tap. In series production and industrial use, these taps are indispensable anyway, because at high volumes even the strongest craftsman's biceps will eventually give out.
With the power of the big machine breathing down its neck, the machine tap manages to do the entire job in just one step. This is why we also speak of single-cut taps. But beware, unlike manual tapping, you have less direct control here. Correct adjustment of the machines is therefore essential.

Where there is an internal thread, there must of course also be an external thread. And you create this with a die. The die can be used both manually and mechanically, so there are no differences here. You only have to be careful when choosing the holding tool, because you still need a die holder for cutting the external thread by hand.
